On January 1, 2020, the jurisdictional amounts of Florida’s courts are changing.

Small Claims courts will now handle cases up to $8,000.

County Court will increase for cases for more than $8,000 up to $30,000.

Circuit courts will hear cases in excess of $30,000.00.

Visit the Know Your Court website at www.flcourts.org/Know-Your-Court  for more details and watch the video:  animated county court jurisdiction information video.

One of the most significant changes will require those filing civil actions in county courts to file a cover sheet listing the amount in controversy. The cover sheets will allow court administrators to track the changes and report the impact to lawmakers by February 1, 2021.

The new law also changes civil appeals from county courts with amounts between $15,000 to $30,000 to the district courts of appeal, bypassing circuit courts.

Barry Miller Law can assist individuals and businesses with civil litigation needs.  Many cases that involve breach of contract controversies can be avoided with a well drafted contract.  Having protective provisions such as a venue provision and a term that allows the prevailing party to recover attorney’s fees are essential to a good agreement.  Contact us to help.  info@BarryMillerLAw.com
