Giving Back To The Community
The nice thing about working for The Closing Agent (fortunately there are many) is knowing that the people you work with really do care. It can be very easy to get wrapped up in business and productivity, trying to accomplish the specific goals of the day. When you know that success will provide even more opportunity to give back to your community though, it’s very easy to be motivated!
Over the last year I’ve had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with some of the charities The Closing Agent works with. From the Bcenter that provides outreach services for strike stroke survivors to Guys With Ties who raise funds and awareness for numerous local charities, there is always an opportunity to give back.
There is one foundation in particular that holds a very special spot in our hearts. Following the tragic events at Pulse in 2016 Barry Miller founded the The 49 Fund in remembrance of the 49 victims. Each year up to 10 scholarships are awarded to Central Florida LGBT students who have demonstrated a commitment to serving their community, to leadership, and to their personal and professional development. Last year, the first scholarships were awarded in the amount of $4,900 to each student and future leaders who will help shape the face of communities throughout the country.
It’s an exciting time right now as the annual awards ceremony is almost upon us. On the 9th of June, The 49 Fund awards will be held at City Hall. With the process of interviewing scholarship candidates well under way, the final decisions for who should receive the awards will soon be made. Watching a string of nervous but hugely talented individuals walk past my office and into a panel interview has been both inspiring and rewarding. Giving back to the community that treats us so well in this way really does provide a deeper meaning to what success really is!
